Good to know
- Use freshly squeezed juice — bottled tastes flat.
- Add the fizzy mixer last so it keeps its bubbles.
History
The Gin Fizz — gin, lemon, sugar and soda — is a 19th-century American classic recorded in Jerry Thomas's bar guides. It belongs to the broader Fizz family, first built around whiskey and brandy before gin became the favourite. Shaken hard and lengthened with soda, it is bright, tart and endlessly refreshing. It set the pattern for the elaborate Ramos Gin Fizz that followed.
