A two-ingredient after-dinner drink of cognac and amaretto over ice, the French Connection took its name from the 1971 crime thriller. It appears in mid-1970s American bar guides alongside its siblings, the Scotch-based Godfather and vodka-based Godmother. Rich, nutty and low-effort, it is a study in simplicity. It suits a nightcap more than a party.
