History
The Spritz grew out of the Veneto region of Italy, where Austrian soldiers once "sprayed" — spritzen — water into the local wine. The modern version tops prosecco and a bitter apéritivo such as Aperol with a splash of soda. Bright, low-strength and endlessly drinkable, it became the drink of the Italian aperitivo hour. Its orange glow is now seen on terraces worldwide.
