The Sherry Cobbler — sherry, sugar and orange over mountains of crushed ice — was a runaway hit in 1830s America. It helped popularise the drinking straw and inspired "American bars" to open around the world. Charles Dickens even gave it a memorable mention in his fiction. Low in alcohol and endlessly refreshing, it is a Victorian classic worth reviving.
