History
A simple French apéritif of chilled white wine sweetened with a dash of crème de cassis, the Kir is named for Canon Félix Kir, a wartime mayor of Dijon who championed the local blackcurrant liqueur. Traditionally made with Burgundy's Bourgogne Aligoté wine, it showcases the region's produce. Swap the still wine for Champagne and it becomes a Kir Royal. It remains a classic French aperitif.
