History

Year1970s
PlaceCórdoba, Argentina
Created byAttributed to Oscar “el Negro” Becerra

In Argentina, Fernet-and-cola is as everyday as a gin and tonic in England, and the Fernandito is its name. The pairing is most closely tied to Córdoba province, where a bartender called Oscar "el Negro" Becerra is said to have popularised it in the 1970s. The bitter, medicinal Fernet Branca meets sweet cola over plenty of ice. A joint Branca-Coca-Cola campaign in the 1990s pushed it nationwide.
