History
The savoury blend of vodka and spiced tomato juice is usually credited to Fernand Petiot, who refined it while tending bar in Paris and later New York in the 1920s and '30s. The seasonings — Worcestershire, Tabasco, salt and pepper, lemon — were dialled in over time to suit American palates. Its name has been tied to everyone from Queen Mary I to a waitress, with no clear winner. Today it is the definitive brunch and hangover drink.
